Much of MadGods inspiration is derived from the remnants of past culture. These veins of originality are no longer with us in the form of authentic style and rebellion that existed in the formative years of youth culture, music, skateboarding and the independent artist. Most only recognize the patterns left in the wake of original influence.

MadGods has always taken a fondness to the interpretation of our own subcultures by foreign voyeurs, more specifically, the methodical breakdown of western music and skateboarding imagery and styles by Japanese Otaku cool hunters at the turn of the millennium. Using this fondness as a filter of sorts, we touch on realms of thought that we once believed were slowly becoming extinct with a new generation of youth that don’t remember a world before the internet. Using a familiar aesthetic, we perfect the art of dressing sheep in wolf’s clothing.

SXSW Quick & Dirty Part 5: Inbetween Time…Tuesday is like the eye of the storm if you do the whole festival.

March 31st, 2009

REWIND<<<

First off, I forgot to mention that MadGods helped produce a special “Texas” edition Massive Black tshirt that debuted on Sunday the 15th for the IMAGINATIONS party. Here are some pics…

And here’s a random pic from the party of one of the many Englishmen I met during SXSW wearing a ‘Fuck for Peace’ hoody he just bought. Hooray globalism!

FASTFORWARD>>>

Tuesday of SXSW is a sort of off day. Interactive is basically done and music attendees are really just starting to arrive. So this was the day to get the bus ready for the week…

A quick review of the bus before we wrapped it.

And an after pic with the ‘Guitar Hero’ girls who were randomly scooped up and brought to the shop by Jabar and Malik, from BMI, who wanted to come check things out while we got ready.

So after we got things ready we decided to roll out and just cruise around real easy like to get a feel for things and let handfulls of folks wandering around trip out on the bus. Along the way we just kept picking people up. I forgot my camera that night so not too many pics but at one point everyone in the back of the bus started taking pics of each other with their iphones for some reason. Here’s my set.

Nino.
I haven’t seen Nino in about 10 years and he was rolling through town on his way to Atlanta from Cali. We just happened to be at the same corner when he called out of the blue.

The lovely ‘T’ who I rarely see since she popped out some twins awhile back- if you can believe that. Check her out at NO COMPLY Skateshop sometime.

And Danny, who I see all the time. All I can say about Danny is he likes to put people in headlocks.

So yeah, Tuesday was just the warm up. While we were driving around we drove past the 5th Gallery which is run in part by MOFOZ VISUALZ. They took a pic of us driving by:

Clicking on the above pic will link you to their blog. Their blog has some great shots of some the better events that went down during this years SXSW. Go there to see pics of the 5TH Gallery (where MadGods Tshirts are sold…yeah-yeah) and their selection of photos of the Plutonia Party and the Tricky, Janelle Monae, Bun B, Phranchyze and Jadakiss shows. Real good stuff. ok tomorrow we’ll do Wednesday even though it’ll be Tuesday. Hang in there.
