Much of MadGods inspiration is derived from the remnants of past culture. These veins of originality are no longer with us in the form of authentic style and rebellion that existed in the formative years of youth culture, music, skateboarding and the independent artist. Most only recognize the patterns left in the wake of original influence.

MadGods has always taken a fondness to the interpretation of our own subcultures by foreign voyeurs, more specifically, the methodical breakdown of western music and skateboarding imagery and styles by Japanese Otaku cool hunters at the turn of the millennium. Using this fondness as a filter of sorts, we touch on realms of thought that we once believed were slowly becoming extinct with a new generation of youth that don’t remember a world before the internet. Using a familiar aesthetic, we perfect the art of dressing sheep in wolf’s clothing.

SXSW Quick&Dirty Part 2: MASSIVE BLACK PARTY

March 26th, 2009

Man, got started early. The fear of rain would weigh heavy on us this day. As everyone unloaded piece after piece of high end pro audio/visual gear, avoiding puddles along the way, the fear that rain might ruin the event was totally unspoken. If rain would be enough to stop the graff heads from hitting our wall then for sure it would stop the artists who had flown in from SF from setting their laptops up outside, with models standing there to render, all on equipment exposed to the elements. Little did we know- from that Sunday afternoon on, SXSW would entirely escape anything but beautiful, sunny, cool weather. God Bless Texas. Here we go.

After grabbing tee’s from the shop we headed up to uncle Mark’s to load up some extra bass cabinets for the party. The sound system was fine, but this had to be thumpin by a factor of at least 18 more inches. MadGods would make sure of that.

Teresa, the third in our trio of models, was late. So we made her sit in the corner. And you’re welcome for the pics of the models and shit, but can I tell you how mad I am I didn’t get any pics of the food. The food fucking rocked. Lamb, stuffed chicken, some sauce that took 2 hours to figure out why it was so good… we finally asked what was in it and now I can’t remember. But when I do I may do a whole post about it.

So I’m just the spark of this thing. It was my idea to initially approach Massive Black about a SXSW party. Our part in it downsized due to some wack fire marshall issuess but Jason, as I said, would not be denied. Too many promises made to back out so he deserves the credit. But THIS guy, Zack- he’s the man with the plan. I would say the brain to match the heart. He is Massive Black’s IT guy and he designed the presentation we got to see. BIG Fuckin Props to him. After thangs wound down most of my folks went on to Red Scoot Inn. I packed up. There will be more posted about the event but this is the start. There are a lot of people to thank for this event. Plus there is a whole weeks more stuff to talk about I need to get to.
