Much of MadGods inspiration is derived from the remnants of past culture. These veins of originality are no longer with us in the form of authentic style and rebellion that existed in the formative years of youth culture, music, skateboarding and the independent artist. Most only recognize the patterns left in the wake of original influence.

MadGods has always taken a fondness to the interpretation of our own subcultures by foreign voyeurs, more specifically, the methodical breakdown of western music and skateboarding imagery and styles by Japanese Otaku cool hunters at the turn of the millennium. Using this fondness as a filter of sorts, we touch on realms of thought that we once believed were slowly becoming extinct with a new generation of youth that don’t remember a world before the internet. Using a familiar aesthetic, we perfect the art of dressing sheep in wolf’s clothing.

Jason Mraz

Jason Mraz is one of those artists who is not typically in my radar field, but who has so much talent and recognition that he’s managed to seep into my head anyway. You see he has one of the top international singles of 2008, I’m Yours off his third full length We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. (A sentiment we can support)

I’m Yours may not  be the song I turn on when I feel like breaking shit, but it’s a nice song that a lot of pretty girls like to hum and bounce around to when it plays. Sorta like Hawaiian music- it goes well with sunny weather. Anyway this song is (or was) everywhere for awhile and is the type of tune that can really get stuck in your head. Years from now you will still hear it being played in random places.

Recently Jason played Antone’s here in Austin, backed by our friends the Grooveline Horn Section, as well as his album cohort Bushwalla. He even shared some shine with local mic controller  Zeale32. We mention all this because he seems to have taken a shine to one of our designs as well. Designed by SMUT, our Fuck For Peace graphic was a hit when we put it on the side of our bus during SXSW. Jason liked it so much we had to give him one.  Here’s some more pics of Jason Mraz, his new MadGods tee, and the scene at Antone’s this past weekend. All photos were found in this article from the Dallas Examiner.
