Much of MadGods inspiration is derived from the remnants of past culture. These veins of originality are no longer with us in the form of authentic style and rebellion that existed in the formative years of youth culture, music, skateboarding and the independent artist. Most only recognize the patterns left in the wake of original influence.

MadGods has always taken a fondness to the interpretation of our own subcultures by foreign voyeurs, more specifically, the methodical breakdown of western music and skateboarding imagery and styles by Japanese Otaku cool hunters at the turn of the millennium. Using this fondness as a filter of sorts, we touch on realms of thought that we once believed were slowly becoming extinct with a new generation of youth that don’t remember a world before the internet. Using a familiar aesthetic, we perfect the art of dressing sheep in wolf’s clothing.

HALLOWEEN

November 4th, 2009

img_0688ewwwwwwww. The photo above was taken at the Monster Show 4 at Domy bookstore and gallery. The photo is of a full scale replication of the scene depicted in the crime scene photo below. It’s of Mary Kelly, who was infamously murdered in a most gruesome way by none other than the monster Jack the Ripper. See below.

How appetizing is that? This was after having a splendid dinner at one of Austin’s newest and hottest restaraunt’s, Justine’s Brasserie. It’s located way east side, where if you squint your eyes you might think you’re in New Orleans. I went there with NOLA native, DJ Fundamental, where we were served excellent food by some really well dressed Vampire chicks who spoke French and wore a lot of lace. It was all Anne Rice up in the spot.

Afterwards we went to Domy and checked out the art and Fundamental bought a really expensive and really rad architecture book that I covet. Here are some pics from the Monster Show 4 followed by some pics of a Halloween party put on by my partner E.

img_0689Possibly one of the most iconic monster images ever, re-imagined nicely.

img_72171Noa, doing her Dynasty era look for Halloween. Also the ladies from Boutique Realty. The girl with the hat on was fucking hilarious, I must say. She was like a profesional hater all night. I don’t know if that was her costume her just her but it was good.

I should mention that we made a special request print for Aaron of Ghostland Observatory for his Halloween show up in Dallas. They sold out 3500 tickets at the Palladium. Yeehaw, goddamn! Our intern Andrew went to the show and hand delivered this special red on black Halloween edition of Unnecessary Evil. The appreciative Aaron even got our boy backstage. Here’s a couple of shots from Andrew’s blog The Dalmation Reputation where you can find a lot more info about the show.
