Much of MadGods inspiration is derived from the remnants of past culture. These veins of originality are no longer with us in the form of authentic style and rebellion that existed in the formative years of youth culture, music, skateboarding and the independent artist. Most only recognize the patterns left in the wake of original influence.

MadGods has always taken a fondness to the interpretation of our own subcultures by foreign voyeurs, more specifically, the methodical breakdown of western music and skateboarding imagery and styles by Japanese Otaku cool hunters at the turn of the millennium. Using this fondness as a filter of sorts, we touch on realms of thought that we once believed were slowly becoming extinct with a new generation of youth that don’t remember a world before the internet. Using a familiar aesthetic, we perfect the art of dressing sheep in wolf’s clothing.

SXSW GARAGE SALE POP UP

March 27th, 2012

This past SXSW MadGods popped up another little retail shop. This time inside the garage studio of The Art Department.

A Garage Sale was the natural theme and being held during the annual SXSW music fest we decided to invite our friends from the beat culture themed 33 1/3rd clothing line to participate in the store as well as the instructors from TAD to display their best music themed pieces in the gallery. We also produced and debuted a series of tee’s from TAD instructor Francis Vallejo. Here are shots taken by several friends of the store as well as a video from JOIN THE STUDIO featuring music by ABT. Photo credits include Studio MG, Francis Vallejo, Amanda Arthur, Shima Darby, Orlando Sanchez, Karan Kapoor and Eric Morgan. Through out the week we got to catch some amazing acts including Slaughterhouse, Fifty Cent and Eminem at the SHADY 2.0 show (soon to be broadcast FUSE),  SBTRKT, El-P featuring Killer Mike, Nottz and DMP, Zuzuka Poderosa, Peligrosa, Erykah Badu, ZTrip, The Debo Band, Mobb Deep, Just Blaze, Sean Kuti, Slum Village, Bavu Blakes, Dev, Timbaland and so many more. We even got to check out some movie premieres including the soon to be great crime drama ‘BOOSTER’ featuring our Boston bred friend Adam DuPaul. 33 1/3rd also helped bring some amazing talent from all corners of the country for in-store performances.  Local DJ’s Ramo, Pagame and Tommy Blvd kept the decks warm and groups The Locksmiths (Anthony Maintain and DJ Trust), Ceschi, Grey Sky Appeal, Dark Time Sunshine, Lo Phi, Juicy the Emmisary, True 2 Life, Evolve, DJ Myke Nyse and Ced Hughes all blessed the sound system. We even squeezed in some great art projects with DeviantArt.com and a Premiere Party for PUREFILTH MAGAZINE featuring King Louie, P-nyce, and DJ Expo…  Special thanks to everyone who helped support in any capacity. This one was one of the best yet.
