Much of MadGods inspiration is derived from the remnants of past culture. These veins of originality are no longer with us in the form of authentic style and rebellion that existed in the formative years of youth culture, music, skateboarding and the independent artist. Most only recognize the patterns left in the wake of original influence.

MadGods has always taken a fondness to the interpretation of our own subcultures by foreign voyeurs, more specifically, the methodical breakdown of western music and skateboarding imagery and styles by Japanese Otaku cool hunters at the turn of the millennium. Using this fondness as a filter of sorts, we touch on realms of thought that we once believed were slowly becoming extinct with a new generation of youth that don’t remember a world before the internet. Using a familiar aesthetic, we perfect the art of dressing sheep in wolf’s clothing.

Dinner At The Thompson’s

January 31st, 2012

Last year our folk BBC (outta Houston) put us onto Dinner at the Thompsons. The folks at BBC (outta London) said this about them…

“Feted by the likes of Gilles Peterson, the duo’s intelligent mix of jazz-influenced hip-hop, funk and electronica has been one of the better underground successes of recent years.”

The Fat Beats distributed Paris based duo consisting of vocalist Lucille and beat maker FabLive are an act MadGods support. Their live show with Fab committing murder on the MPC behind Lucille’s throw back vocals is a sight definitely worth checking. Click the video below to check out their sound for yourself. We’d really like to get this group back to Austin to play material from their “Off the Grid” album for a SXSW audience- SO PLEASE  hit us up if your event could use some smart, soulful, international flaire.

DRAGONS FOREVER

January 27th, 2012

This is our friend Sky Fung. She’s a native of Chinatown New York turned local Oahu girl.  She surfs on the regs, lives a healthy lifestyle and is a lifelong practitioner and proponent of dance. We met at BBOY CITY Hawai’i in 2010 and have been tight since. She is practiced in freestyle, Polynesian and African dance among others, but her roots are in the discipline of classical Chinese dance. In celebration of the Lunar New Year- here are some photos we took of Sky wearing FERG’s Misfortune Cat tank top while she practiced rocking some classic Wushù  Lion Dance moves. Holidaze Wrap Up /// DFW-DMV-NYC

January 10th, 2012

Starting immediately after FAILURE’S DECADE OF AGGRESSION show at the Dallas Contemporary I went on a series of trips. I travelled to see the KAWS exhibit at the MOMA in Fort Worth, Texas then flew to Washington D.C. to meet my niece for Christmas and visit the Smithsonian Institute and National Mall. From there I took a train up the coast to end 2011 with friends and loved ones in New York City. Here are some pics from the journey.
