So as we are going through our orders from SLATE, we always do research on our new clients, new potential clients and even old friends to see what’s new in everyone’s respective realm. But i’m bugging off this new account we just landed.

PODIUM is our very first account in Russia. That alone feels really good- especially since I love Russian accents (I had every intention of going to the University of Moscow when I was a kid.)

But then the order was pretty nice, too. As you can see from their website, Podium is really nice and high end. But upon further inspection, they are REALLY nice and REALLY high end. Actually, they are the leading luxury retail chain in Russia. Checkout this piece from Handbag.com in 2008 where they were listed as the #2 Top (multi-brand) Boutique Destination globally. #10 on the list is Colette, Paris. Everyone in streetwear knows Colette has been holding down European shopping this last decade. On this list Podium holds 9 places ahead, nestled between Boutique 1 in Dubai and  Villa Moda in Kuwait. These are exceptionally dope ass stores that I will likely never be able to shop at. Maybe window shop. Podium is the store where Chanel does its pop up shop. But this list is old news from 2008?  In 2009 they bumped off Boutique 1 and captured the #1 spot on several top 10 lists. (Colette even moved up rankings, possibly as a result of the competitive nature of these lists?) This has the MadGods crew seriously stoked and wanting a shot of Smirnoff as we watch Spies Like Us.

So, if come spring time you find yourself in Red Square, across from the Kremlin, somewhere next to the Four Seasons, go hob nob with the ruling elite  and their hot Eastern European girlfriends and pick yourself up a MadGods tee shirt… because fuck it, you can.

Do svidaniya!!

We’re back.

MG Artist Feature: FAILURE

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Who is FAILURE? And why “Failure”?

FAILURE: Failure has become an identity separate from who I am in real-life. When I first started using it in my art, I just liked the feelings the word evoked. It started as a simple tongue in cheek observation that many girls I know felt burdened by how women are portrayed in media. As I put more and more of this kind of work in public places, people assumed it was a name, or a label. I kept using it due to the momentum it gave the work, and how easy it made to see the project as a whole.

What do you often find yourself dreaming about? (in either sense of the word)

I find it very difficult to stop thinking about the things I want to create. I am usually lost in a sea of thoughts that revolve around my work, my girlfriend, and trying to remind myself to be patient about things…

Do you have a singular purpose? Or just an A.D.D. desire to create anything and everything?

I’m thinking a little bit of both? I guess ultimately, I want to create anything I possibly can, to use every vehicle at my disposal to get these images and thoughts out to the general public. Since working with MadGods, it has opened doors for a higher level of presentation, and more possibilities.

How did you get hooked up with MadGods? Did he find you, or did you seek him out?

We meet through everyone’s favorite DJ/Entrapanuer, John Gomi. I was printing shirts out of my home, selling them through Gomi’s store. MadGods felt that the quality was on par with what his old Japanese clients were looking for, and I always wanted to find a way to get my art into the far east, so we linked up.

What is the subliminal — or conscious — message behind all of your art?

Nothing is impossible, and nothing is forever. I think these two things are the hardest ideas for the human mind to grasp.

What songs are on your summer playlist?

-The Clash, London Calling
-Lee Scratch Perry, Underground Root
-The Misfits, Hollywood Babylon
-The Misfits, She
-The Rolling Stones, Paint It Black
-Gangstarr, Mass Appeal
-Gangstarr, Bust Your Shit
